SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Four out of five members of the Radford men's golf team shot under par in the final round of the Wofford Invitational to finish in fourth out of 18 teams in the final tune-up before the Big South Championships.
The fourth-place team finish marks the sixth time in nine tries that the Highlanders have earned a spot in the top five this season. Radford shot 290-291-283—864 to end the tournament right at even par.
The star of the show was
Patrick Gareiss without a doubt. The Chesapeake, Va. native carded a 71 in the final round to end his stellar showing at 2-under par and placed 10
th out of 96 competitors. His strong week was buoyed by three eagles – two in the first round and one in the third round.
Tyler Hull just missed out on a top-10 finish, tying for 11
th at 1-under par. The boisterous team leader tallied 12 birdies over the last two days and had just one single hole that resulted in something worse than a bogey.
Nicholas Taliaferro was Mr. Consistent yet again, staying in the low-to-mid 70's in all three rounds to jump up in a tie for 29
th when things were all said and done.
Bryce Corbett improved in each of his three rounds this week, capping his tournament with a team-best 70. He made one of the biggest leaps of anyone on the individual leaderboard on Tuesday, rising 25 spots to tie for 45
th.
Ryan Neil was excellent in his final round, shaving several strokes off of his first and second round scores to end the week with a 71. He also made a big leap, moving 19 spots up the board to tie for 65
th and build some momentum.
