HIGH POINT, N.C. — The Radford baseball team strung together 16 hits as they took down High Point 14-1
on Friday evening to even the series.
Radford (11-23, 5-9 Big South) received offensive contributions from nearly every hitter in the lineup, as a season-high seven hitters recorded multiple hits. Third baseman
Bradlee Preap led the way, going 3-for-4 with four runs and four RBI, including a two-run homer in the ninth inning for his first long ball of the season.
Outfielder
Cameron Pittman also had a helping hand, hitting 3-for-4 with two runs scored. The freshman helped kickstart a rally in the fourth inning. After catcher
Julian Rojas singled back to the pitcher to score the first run of the game, Pittman came through with a base knock through the left side to plate Rojas. He then scored on a wild pitch to give the visitors a 3-0 lead.
Radford continued the offensive onslaught into the late innings. In the eight inning, shortshop
David Bryant and Preap recorded back-to-back RBI singles, while Rojas sent everyone home with a two-run double. That extended the lead to 10-1, as the Highlanders scored four runs in each of the final two frames.
High Point (12-23, 7-7) saw starter Teddy Merrit (3-4) surrender four earned runs in 4.2 innings on 103 pitches. The Highlanders made the Panthers' staff work, as they totaled 208 pitches on the night.
Radford got two splendid pitching performances from starter
Will Hunt and long-reliever
Peyton Reesman (4-1), who earned the win. Hunt tossed four scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and no walks, while Reesman carried the game to its conclusion with five innings of one-run ball.
