Radford Drops Senior Day Battle with Campbell

RADFORD, Va. – Radford (12-6, 6-1 BSC) fell in their Big South regular season finale Saturday afternoon to a tough Campbell squad 4-3 despite picking up three singles courts.

Before action started the team honored seniors Andres Silva, Dylan Whitehead, Will Crane and Karl Katlaps for the dedication and hard work spent to making the men's tennis program a force over the years.

The evening began with a tightly contested doubles point. Demis Taramonlis and Andres Silva were efficient in their victory on the top court 6-1, but courts two and three went to tiebreakers that the Camels were able to win both of and take the early 1-0 lead.

Needing four singles courts the Highlanders got to work. Aditya Balsekar was his dominant self with a 6-0, 6-2 win on court five that evened the match. Konstantinos Raptis was next with a huge win on court four 6-2, 6-2.

Radford was halfway to their goal, but Campbell took two courts of their own to retake a 3-2 lead. Campbell clinched the match on court six, but Taramonlis was able to pick up one more court for Radford winning 7-5, 6-3.

Taramonlis and Balsekar will finish the regular season with perfect conference records as both have made huge statements for postseason awards. Today's loss sealed up the two seed in the Big South tournament and a first round bye for Radford. The team will take on the winner of the 3 seed vs. the 6 seed on April 23rd in Charlotte.

Up Next
The Highlanders are done with Big South play, but have one last tune up before the conference tournament in a couple weeks as they will travel to play Elon on April 13th.
