Moss Flirts with Cycle as Highlanders Down Lady Pirates 4-1 in Series Opener

HAMPTON, Va. – The Radford softball program got back in the win column Friday afternoon with a 4-1 victory at Hampton. Jordan Moss had a huge day at the plate collecting hits in all three plate appearances.

After a quiet first inning the Highlanders opened the scoring in the second with a pair of runs. Hannah Poole began the inning with a double and Moss scored Poole with the Highlanders' first triple of the season. That brought up Cassi Barbato who got Moss in thanks to a sacrifice fly.

In the third inning, Radford got to add to their lead thanks to Moss once again. This time Moss reached just first base on her hit with a two-out RBI single that scored Cori McMillan and Emily Smith. With a 4-0 lead, Radford was in control.

Jessie Marvin got the starting nod for the opener and went the distance giving up a lone run over seven solid innings of work. Marvin struck out five batters in her ninth complete game of the season and 52nd of her career. The 52 complete games currently rank sixth all-time by any Highlander in their career.

Moss doubled again to lead off the sixth inning putting her just a home run shy of the cycle. The Macon, Ga. native would come up short, however, as the game ended before she could get her fourth at bat and a chance at history.

Hampton had multiple threats throughout the game, but Radford was always able to get the third out before any damage was done. The Highlanders defense did not commit a single error en route to the 4-1 victory. The team was also efficient on the base paths with McMillan picking up another stolen base and remaining a perfect eight-for-eight in stolen base attempts.

Moss' three-hit day raised her conference batting average to .333 on the season, third best on the team. McMillan also had a quiet three-hit day with three singles that raised her overall batting average to .353 as the freshman continues to impress.
