McMillan Named NFCA Division I Freshman of the Year Finalist

LOUISVILLE, KY. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) revealed Thursday afternoon that Radford Softball standout Cori McMillan has been named a top-25 finalist for the 2022 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year award.

McMillan has had an incredible season for the Highlanders this spring, leading the team in just about every offensive category. The freshman also ranks sixth or higher for the Big South in home runs, RBIs, slugging percentage and on-base plus slugging percentage.

McMillan made a name for herself right away for the Highlanders collecting five RBIs in just her fifth game with the team. Thanks in part to her 12 home runs, the Highlanders currently stand at 84th in Division I for home runs per game. The Greensboro, N.C. native has totaled a .355 batting average, 31 RBIs, 27 runs scored, and a perfect eight for eight in stolen bases so far this spring.

Overall, 25 student athletes across the country have been chosen as finalists for the award. Twelve programs on the list, including Radford, are represented for the first time. On May 12th, the list will be trimmed down to the top 10 and the three finalists will be released on May 26th. The 2022 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year will be announced on June 1st.
