RALEIGH, N.C. — The Radford baseball team utilized five different pitchers to take a no-hitter into the sixth inning, but NC State rallied to win 6-2 on Friday night at Doak Field in game one of the series.
The Highlanders (13-28) started with
Alex Jankowski as the opener. The freshman tossed one scoreless frame on only six pitches, facing the minimum.
Will Hunt followed that up with a scoreless second inning, while
William Flanagan and
Foster Seitz chipped in with zeros in the third and fourth, respectively.
Radford finally broke through on the scoreboard in the fifth inning, when shortshop
David Bryant laced a two-run double down the left field line to plate left fielder
Tanner Barrs and catcher
Julian Rojas. Bryant went 2-for-4 on the night, adding a single in the first.
After
Ty Burton came in to pitch a scoreless fifth inning, NC State (27-13) finally broke through in the sixth with a single by Chase Nixon. This was the longest Radford had gone without allowing a hit in a game all season.
The Pack strung together multiple hits in the sixth, taking the lead on a two-run homer by Dominic Polloli. The home team never looked back from there, tacking on two runs in the late innings to secure the victory.
