Highlanders Come Up Short at Winthrop

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Radford women's lacrosse team fell to Winthrop Saturday 13-10 as a comeback attempt came up short. Katie Carroll led all scorers with five goals on the game.
In the first quarter, the teams traded goals one at a time with a Grace Gleason goal and Ashlyn Grogan scoring on a free position to keep the game close at 3-2 through 15 minutes of play.
Grace Gleason opened the scoring in the second quarter with an assist from Carlie Rosenburg. Katie Carroll added a goal 80 seconds later to give the Highlanders the lead, assisted by Reaghan Kolb. A second Carroll tally, assisted by Grogan, ended an Eagles run to keep Radford in striking distance at the half.
River Rupert scored a goal unassisted early in the third before Katie Carroll poured in her third of the day. The hat trick was the third of Carroll's career and her first since 2020. Grace Gleason scored her third, the fourth hat trick of her career, just before the end of the period to draw the Highlanders closer with a quarter to play.
In the fourth, Katie Carroll scored her fourth and fifth goals, the most in a game by a Radford player this season.

The Highlanders will be back on the road at Furman on Wednesday, April 13 at 6 p.m.
