NC State Takes Series Finale From Radford

RALEIGH, N.C. — Despite outhitting their opposition 10-9, the Radford baseball team fell to NC State 11-4 in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Doak Field.
The Highlanders (13-30) were beset by 10 walks issued to NC State hitters. In the first inning, after LuJames Groover III drew a base on balls, Josh Hood capitalized with a two-run homer to put the Wolfpack ahead.
After NC State (29-13) took an 8-0 lead after the five innings, Radford mounted a surge. The Highlanders struck in the sixth thanks to a two-out, two-RBI single by catcher Julian Rojas, cutting the deficit to 8-2. Left fielder Tanner Barrs followed that up with a single of his own, but the Highlanders were unable to take any further advantage.
After two more runs by the Wolfpack in the seventh, the visitors again had a response, drawing four consecutive walks to score a pair of runs. Right fielder Brendan Bagwell drove in a run with a bases-loaded free pass, while center fielder Adam Morris did the same in the ensuing at-bat.
Third baseman Bradlee Preap had a very productive day, going 2-for-4 with two runs and a walk. Hood was the star of the show for NC State, recording five RBI on two hits.
Canaan Silver (6-0) took the win for the Pack, allowing just one run over 5.1 innings. Peyton Reesman (4-2) took the losing decision for Radford, with three earned runs allowed over three innings in his start.
NOTABLE STATS
Radford will have the week off before traveling to Annapolis, Md. for a three-game set with Navy. The series will start with a doubleheader on Saturday, with the first pitch for game one yet to be determined.
