14 Highlanders Take Home Annual VaSID All-State Honors

RADFORD, VA. – Over the course of the 2021-22 season it was announced that 14 Radford student-athletes earned VaSID honors. Radford saw award winners stretching across many of the department's 15 Division I programs.
 
Six Highlanders were most recently named to the VaSID Academic All-State team. Margaret Gleason (Women's Lacrosse), Skyler DeHart (Softball), Malin Falk (Women's Tennis), Hailey Flowers (Volleyball), Ryan Neil (Men's Golf) and Andres Silva (Men's Tennis) all earned the award thanks to their excellent performances on and off the playing field this past season.
 
Overall, Radford had four representatives make first team all-state, four representatives make second team all-state and two major award winners. Below you can read up on each of the Highlanders who were among the best in the state of Virginia.
 
Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) names 44 all-state teams in 23 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the state of Virginia.

KAT PARRIS | Rookie of the Year and First Team Women's SoccerParris2
Midfielder/Forward | Silver Springs, Md. | Freshman
 
Parris played in all 19 games last Fall while starting in all of them. She also led the team in shots with 60 shots, 13 goals and 9 assists. Outside of VaSID, she was named Big South Offensive Player of The Week (once), Big South Freshman of the week (twice), Big South First Team All-Conference, Big South All-Freshman Team, and Big South Freshman of The Year.
 

 
LILY MCLANE | First Team All-State Women's SoccerMcLane2
Midfielder | Dunkirk, Md. | Graduate
 
McLane appeared in 18 games as a starter last Fall playing in 1,443 minutes for the Highlanders. McLane shot on opponents 31 times, 17 of which were on goal which helped produce 5 goals and 8 assists. The Dunkirk, Md. native also received Big South Offensive Player of the Week honors and Big South Second Team All-Conference as a Midfielder.
 

 
KAYLA THOMAS | Second Team All-State Women's SoccerThomas2
Defender | Rolleston, New Zealand | Senior
 
A staple of Radford's strong defense over the last four seasons, Thomas played and started in all 19 games last Fall. Offensively, she also recorded 11 shots that produced 2 goals. Over the course of the season she earned Big South Defensive Player of the Week (once), Big South All-Conference First Team Defender, and her third straight Big South Defender of The Year.
 

 
CORI MCMILLAN | Second Team All-State SoftballMcMillan2
Third Base | Greensboro, N.C. | Freshman

Last season McMillan led Radford in just about every offensive category while also slugging a second-most in the conference 14 home runs. McMillan was one of just two players in the Big South to record 10 doubles and 10 home runs. She was also a perfect 11 for 11 in stolen bases causing chaos for opponents with her aggressive base running. Her home runs, slugging percentage, OPS, runs scored, RBIs and stolen base percentage were all either best or within the top-two among Big South freshman. McMillan at one point was also named an NFCA Freshman of the Year Top-25 finalist, the lone Big South representative on the list.

 

 
HANNAH MORAN | Second Team All-State Women's Outdoor Track & FieldMoran2
Distance | Greensboro, N.C. | Freshman

Moran had a historic outdoor season for the Highlanders last year by breaking the school records at 1,500m, 5,000m and 10,000m. Moran also broke the Big South Conference record at 10,000m and later went on to be the Big South Champion at 10,000m. Moran's success helped her qualify for the postseason competing in the NCAA East Preliminary qualifier in the 5,000m and 10,000m.


BRYCE CORBETT | First Team All-State Men's GolfCorbett2
6-2 | Gainesville, Va. | Sophomore

During his sophomore campaign Corbett earned first team All-Big South honors while also earning a spot on the Big South All-Tournament team with a fourth-place finish at the Big South Championship. During the season he also garnered Big South Golfer of the Week honors twice. Corbett posted a career-best stroke average of 71.69 across 10 tournaments and 29 rounds and shot a season-low round of 65 in the first round of App State's Bash at the Beach.
 

  
TY DOOLEY | First Team All-State BaseballDooley2
INF/OF | 5-10 | Elgin, S.C. | Freshman

Dooley appeared in every game for Radford last season, batting .315 with 28 RBI. He also led the Highlanders in batting average, hits (58), total bases (73), and stolen bases (12). For the week of March 7-13, he was named the Big South Freshman of the Week and at the end of the season made the Big South's all-conference second team and all-freshman team. Dooley padded his impressive resume by recording 16 multi-hit games and three four-hit games.

 



YOSHIYA OKAWA | Rookie of the Year and Second Team Men's SoccerOkawa2
Forward | Tokyo, Japan | Freshman

In his collegiate debut Okawa made the All-Big South Second Team and Big South All-Freshman Team selection. Okawa played in all 16 games for the Highlanders, making 13 starts and scoring six goals while tallying one assist for 13 points. Okawa amassed 1,005 minutes played, going a season-high 90 full minutes against Liberty on Sept. 11.
