Four Highlanders Combine to Sweep Weekly Cross Country Awards

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Four Radford Highlanders' performances from last weekend help sweep the weekly Big South awards, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon. Sam Sikora and Sophie Magson were tabbed as the Big South's men's and women's runner of the week while Charlie Dance and Kate McLearen both earned freshman of the week honors.
Sikora picked up his first collegiate win on Saturday, as he won the Lancer Pink Invite at Longwood University. He finished the 8,000-meter course with a time of 26:45.7, an effort strong enough to help the Highlanders claim the team title.
Radford also took the team title on the women's side, thanks in large part to Sophie Magson. She paced the field with a time of 18:35.3 to earn her first victory at the collegiate level.
Dance also had an impressive day for the men's squad. In his collegiate debut, the freshman placed third overall, as he ran a time of 26:59.3 to finish on the podium.
McLearen had an impressive debut; she finished sixth overall. Her time of 19:36.0 was fast enough to join the chain of Highlanders that secured the top seven spots in the women's race.
