RADFORD, Va. — The Radford men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 match to Presbyterian on Saturday afternoon at Cupp Stadium in the Big South Conference opener for both teams.
"I thought we played much better today," said Radford head coach
Chris Barrett. "Once again, we were very close to tying the game. I thought our possession was good and our build-up play was good. Again we seem to make mistakes that give away goals. But I do think this is a performance we can build on. Presbyterian is going to prove to be a very good team in the conference so again we have to keep positive and keep working to improve every day."
Presbyterian (6-1-0, 1-0-0 Big South) got on the board early, as Lorenzo Nagy found the back of the net with a chip-shot in the 6th minute. From there, the play was relatively even in the first half, as the visitors took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Radford (1-5-1, 0-1-0 Big South) tried to find the equalizer in the second half, but came up empty. A penalty goal by Presbyterian's Nile Nguidjol in the 55th minute gave the Blue Hose a 2-0 advantage.
The Highlanders were led in shots by
Samuel Schwarz, who registered three on the afternoon, marking a career-high for the Germany native. As a team, Presbyterian outshot Radford 9-7, including a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal. Radford did have seven corner kicks, and created several high-quality scoring chances off their set pieces, but were ultimately unable to find the back of the net.
Joseba Incera started in goal for Radford, making four saves. Leo Stritter was the winning keeper for Presbyterian, collecting a pair of saves.
