BOX SCORE ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Radford volleyball simply never got it going in a quick 3-0 loss at Winthrop on Saturday afternoon.
Coming off last night's victory at UNC Asheville, the Highlanders (5-9, 1-1 Big South) had a tight turnaround to travel to Rock Hill. The challenges of that travel and having back-to-back Big South Conference matches for the first time this season showed as the team struggled to counter a well-rested Eagles (6-7, 2-0 Big South) squad.
Taylor Jefferson accounted for 25% of Radford's kills in the match, tallying five out of 20 across three sets.
Summer Campbell and
Grace Tulevech were just behind with four kills each while
Crystal Childs (3) and
Tori Britton (2) also posted multiple kills of their own.
Winthrop's defensive efforts caused problems the entire time, racking up 9.0 total blocks and forcing 28 attack errors by the visitors. At the same time, the Eagle's offense put up 32 kills and just nine errors in a well-rounded performance.
The hosts used considerable scoring runs in all three sets to charge out to big leads, including a 13-0 run to end the second set and a 10-1 run part way through the third set.
