Dominant Second Half Leads Radford to 5-2 Win Over Presbyterian

CLINTON, S.C. – The Radford women's soccer program moved their unbeaten streak to nine matches Saturday afternoon with a 5-2 win over Presbyterian. Five different Highlanders netted goals in the winning effort over the Blue Hose.

While Radford used four goals in the second half to fully pull away, the team took its first lead 16 minutes into the game and held that lead the rest of the way. Katelyn O'Donnell had the scoring strike for the Highlanders, her first goal of the season and first goal since her freshman season in the spring of 2021.

The Highlanders would keep that 1-0 advantage throughout the first half before the flood gates opened in the second half. In the 49th minute, Alexeis Kirnos kept her hot streak alive with another goal to make it a 2-0 lead. Just a minute later Kirnos got involved in another goal, assisting a Lilly Short goal that made it a 3-0 game.

While Presbyterian was able to strike for goals in the 56th and 89th minutes, it would not effect the final outcome of the match. In the 64th minute June Stevens got in on the scoring fun with her second goal as a Highlander. Five minutes later it was Anais Oularbi scoring her first goal of the 2022 campaign. Paige Olson picked up assists on both of those final two goals.

The freshmen Olson and Short continue their impressive introductory campaigns with the Highlanders. With two assists today, Olson moves her season total to four which is second most on the team and most among Radford freshmen. Short's goal was her third of the season which is third-most on the team.

Kirnos continues her offensive outburst as of late with a goal and an assist in today's game. The senior now owns 14 points to her name this season, a total that is best on the team and moves well ahead of her previous single-season high of 10 points. Kirnos has paced a Radford offense that continues to not be out-shot by an opponent this season after out-shooting Presbyterian 15-9 today.

"It was a good road win," commented head coach Ben Sohrabi. "We got better as the game went on and scored some nice goals. It's always a tough trip and to see the team perform well was encouraging."

With today's win Radford moves their unbeaten streak to nine matches and is now 1-0-1 in Big South play after tying Campbell earlier this week. Next week will feature two more Big South matchups for the Highlanders as they face Winthrop on the road on Wednesday, September 28th and then host USC Upstate as a part of alumni weekend next Saturday, October 1st.
