GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Radford men's golf team got under-par scores from its top four players on Monday and owns sole possession of third on the team leaderboard following two rounds at the Ironwood Collegiate.
Bryce Corbett and
Patrick Gareiss paced the squad, tying for sixth at -5. The duo is nine shots back from first place, which is held by East Carolina's Lucas Augustsson at -14.
With 10 birdies on the day, Corbett led the team and ranked sixth in the 90-golfer field. Gareiss was just behind with eight birdies of his own, dominating with a 4.25 stroke average on Par 5's.
Nick Taliaferro was solid with a score of 71 in both rounds, tying for 12
th at 2-under par. The veteran was the only Highlander to shoot even or better on Par 3's through 36 holes.
Thanks to a huge 34-spot boost up the leaderboard in the second round,
Bobby Dudeck finished the day tied for 16
th at -1. The Williamsburg, Va. native had four bogies and one birdie in the first round before tallying four birdies and zero bogies in the second round.
Jack Urban closes out the scoring with a +10 on his scorecard, and will enter the final day tied for 73
rd with plenty of room to move up.
Radford's 116 pars ranked third out of all 14 teams, while the team shot the fourth-best score in the field on Par 3's, Par 4's and Par 5's.
Gareiss gave the Highlanders' their lone eagle on the day, needing just three swings to find the bottom of the cup on a Par 5 16
th hole during his second round of play.
