POWELL'S POINT, N.C. – Shooting +28 as a team over three rounds, the Radford men's golf team tied for 5that the 2023 ODU/OBX Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
Â
The Highlanders shot 9-over par in their third and final journey through Kilmarlic Golf Course, tying with Big South-rival Longwood to finish up the fall schedule.
Â
Radford's brightest point of the tournament was Bryce Corbett's battle for an individual championship, which came up just short. The senior was two strokes clear at the start of his back nine, before running into some trouble.
Â
Corbett started the day strong once again, birdying the 3rd, 9th, and 10th holes. His scores didn't stay quite as low down the stretch however, as he bogeyed the 13th and 16th holes before suffering a double bogey on 18. His 73 (+2) still landed him into a tie for 3rd out of 76 golfers, giving the standout plenty to build on.
Â
Tying for 22nd was Bobby Dudeck, who had a busy day. He birdied the 5th hole, followed it up with a double bogey on the 6th hole, and then immediately erased that mistake with birdies on the 7th and 8th holes. His back nine was an up-and-down adventure as well, bringing his score to a 73.
Â
Patrick Gareiss shot a 74 to tie for 29th, birdying a trio of holes on the back nine to end the tournament on a positive note.
Â
Improving round-over-round, Nathan Piatt shot a 73, which was easily his best score of the week. He jumped nine more spots up the individual leaderboard to tie for 45th. Nicholas Taliferro had a tough final round, bringing his final standing to T-50th.
Â
Radford's 41 combined birdies, 22 of which came from Dudeck and Corbett, were the fourth-most of any team in the field. Corbett did his most damage on Par 4's, where his 3.93 stroke average topped the field.
