GREENVILLE, N.C. – Staying within striking distance of a top-2 finish the entire day, the Radford men's golf team ultimately finished third out of 14 teams thanks to a solid third round of the Ironwood Collegiate on Tuesday.
Entering the day eight strokes back of the hosts, East Carolina, Radford shot a 9-under par 279 as a team for the second straight round. The effort made up seven strokes on the Pirates, who shot just 286 on the day, to fall just one stroke short of tying it up.
Florida Atlantic played lights out all week, and earned the team title at -30, a full seven strokes better than the field.
Senior Highlander
Patrick Gareiss completed the tournament in a tie for 3
rd, carding eight birdies in the final round en route to a 6-under par 66 which matches his career-best score. He totaled 16 birdies across all 54 holes, the third-most out of all 90 competitors who played.
Bryce Corbett added another top-10 finish to his collegiate resume, tying for 7
th at -7. His fifteen birdies were just one less than Gareiss and he dominated Par 5's to the tune of a 4.33 stroke average (-8).
Bobby Dudeck and Nick Taliaferro tied for 15
th, shooting 71 and 72 respectively in the final round. Dudeck's day was brightened by an eagle on the Par-5 seventh hole while Taliaferro birdies each of his final three holes to make a huge climb back into the top of the standings.
While the score of 83 in the third round wasn't what he would have hoped for,
Jack Urban did find a highlight on the 13
th hole when he added another eagle to the Highlanders' ledger.
East Carolina's Lucas Augustsson took home the individual title, shooting 63-67-71—201 (-15) to win by three strokes.

UP NEXT
Coach Grant and company will have a couple weeks to rest before hitting the road to Burlington, N.C. for Elon's Phoenix Invitational. The tournament will begin on Monday, October 16 and conclude on Tuesday, October 17.
