UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Radford women's basketball program fell to a tough Penn State squad Wednesday night 97-47 despite a strong effort from Pa'Shence Traylor-Walker and Ashlyn Traylor-Walker who combined for 23 points.
A brutal start for the Highlanders in the first quarter would be what spelled doom in the meeting. The Nittany Lions outscored the Highlanders 32-6 in the opening 10 minutes as Radford shot just 20% and turned the ball over 11 times.
The result could've worsened for the Highlanders, but the team played better over the final three quarters of play. Pa'Shence led that charge for Radford as she scored nine points in the first half with near-perfect shooting and two made three-pointers.
Taniya Hanner took over to start the second half with six straight points catching fire in the paint. Hanner grabbed a pair of offensive rebounds in the first minutes of the second half and immediately turned them into four second chance points for Radford.
Ashlyn also came alive in the second half, scoring 10 of her 14 points over the final 20 minutes. The sophomore was perfect from the free throw line in three trips picking up a steal and three offensive rebounds. Maci Rhoades also found her stride in the closing minutes scoring five points including a three-pointer in the closing seconds of the game.
