Spencer Horwitz Named to Team Israel World Baseball Classic Roster

RADFORD, Va. — Radford baseball alumnus Spencer Horwitz '19 has been named to the Team Israel roster for the 2023 World Baseball Classic this upcoming March, the WBC announced on Thursday evening.
Horwitz played three years for the Highlanders from 2017-19, batting .288 for his career with 25 home runs and 118 RBI in 169 games. The Timonium, Md. native burst onto the scene as a freshman in 2017, leading the team with a .311 batting average en route to earning Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American honors. Horwitz was twice named a Second Team All-Big South selection, and ranks top-10 all-time in program history in home runs, walks, and fielding percentage.

Horwitz was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 24th round of the 2019 MLB Draft, joining a long list of Highlanders selected to the pros. During his time in the Blue Jays organization, Horwitz has gradually ascended the minor league ladder, playing 44 games for the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons last year.

The World Baseball Classic is an international baseball tournament staged once every four years. The tournament features 20 teams from six continents. Team Israel will be making their second ever appearance in the Classic, having first qualified back in 2017.
