Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Traylor, Wagner and Williams Power Radford to Dominant Win Over Charleston Southern

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's basketball program dominated Charleston Southern 84-52 Saturday afternoon led by big-time performances from the guards group including Ashlyn Traylor (20 points), Carmen Williams (16 points) and Olivia Wagner (16 points).

The Buccaneers opened up the contest shooting at an absurd pace hitting their first four shots and two free throws to mount an 11-4 lead. That would be the largest lead the Buccaneers would ever hold as Radford went on a 10-3 run fueled by a pair of three-pointers by Williams that tied the game at 14-all.

Jackie Christ, who had a big bounce-back game with 10 points, got her afternoon going with a pair of layups that gave Radford an 18-14 edge and a lead they never gave up.  A layup paired with an and-one opportunity by Traylor put Radford up 23-16. Williams ended the offensive outburst with an old fashioned three-point play with an and-one as well, but Charleston Southern nailed a three at the buzzer to keep the Highlanders close.

Another three-point made basket would pull the Buccaneers to within two at 28-26, but Wagner ended that run and snapped a four-minute scoreless streak with a strong drive into the paint. Wagner hit another pair of baskets as the freshman looked unstoppable at times today. Traylor and Williams would combine for Radford's final seven points of the half to build a 42-32 lead before halftime.

As the Highlanders have done all season, they wore down their opponent and fully took off in the second half outscoring the Buccaneers 42-20. Radford used a balanced attack with eight different Highlanders scoring over the final 20 minutes.

Wagner and Traylor kept the pace combining for 17 points in the second half. Rachel LaLonde, after being held scoreless through the first 30 minutes, came alive in the final quarter for seven points. As a team, the Highlanders hit five three-pointers and shot 46% to finish off their 84-52 rout over the Buccaneers.

TYING A CAREER-HIGH
Traylor bounced back for the Highlanders in today's win to the tune of 21 points which ties a career-high she previously set against Emory & Henry earlier this season. Traylor once again attacked from all corners of the game collecting four rebounds, five assists and five steals as well. Traylor did a great job at staying out of foul trouble as well only collecting a lone foul during the game over 32 minutes of play.

WAGNER HEATING UP
The freshman Wagner continues to be a serious threat for opponents as the season goes on. With 16 points today, Wagner just missed her career-high of 17. The Crozet, Va. native shot an efficient 67% on the afternoon, a perfect three-for-three from the free throw line and didn't miss a single shot from inside the arc. Wagner also scored nine points earlier this week against Gardner-Webb and sits just six points away from 200 in her debut season.

UP NEXT
A crucial road test awaits the Highlanders next week. Radford will hit the road to face UNC Asheville at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN3. With just four games remaining in the regular season and the standings growing tighter Radford will look to steal a road game before two of their final three games occur inside the Dedmon Center.
