Ekanem Impresses in Spring Debut, Radford Falls to Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Radford women's tennis program played their second match in as many days Saturday night this time against Virginia Tech falling 7-0. Rachel Ekanem had the impressive night for Radford, forcing a third set on court six against her opponent.

Radford played a close doubles point with two close matches on courts two and three. Brooke Murphy and Ameek Batth took an early lead on court three but ultimately fell 6-3. Camryn McClure and Lexi Smolder were also trailing just 4-3 when the doubles point was called, and their match went unfinished.

In singles play, it was Ekanem who impressed in her spring debut. The freshman quickly took the first set 6-3 but fell in the second set 1-6. As the match had already been decided, she played an abbreviated third set tiebreaker where her comeback fell just short 10-5.

Radford will be on the road for their next match-up against UNC Greensboro on February 9th before returning home for a match against East Carolina the following weekend back in the NRV.
