Men's Tennis Falls Against #1 Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Radford men's tennis program faced the number one team in the country Sunday night, Virginia, and fell 7-0 with some nice individual battles.

In doubles play Radford was competitive on both courts one and two. Aditya Balsekar and Guilherme Severin won a trio of sets and was close to winning a fourth before ultimately falling 6-3. Dinos Raptis and Demis Taramonlis came very close to picking up a marquee victory and were leading 5-4 before going unfinished as Virginia had already clinched the doubles point.

In singles the Highlanders continued to push the Cavaliers. Filippo Marangoni and Charles Courteau highlighted on courts five and six respectively. Marangoni pushed his Cavalier opponent to the brink with a tiebreaker that just didn't fall his way. Courteau mounted a comeback attempt in his match after a close 5-7 loss in the first set and a 6-3 turnaround win in the second. The third set tiebreaker wouldn't go Courteau's way, however, sealing the 7-0 win for Virginia.

The Highlanders will move away from the nationally ranked opponents for the next match. This upcoming Tuesday, February 7th, Radford travels to face UNC Greensboro with first serve at noon.
