Men’s Tennis Collects Impressive 5-1 Victory Over Jacksonville State

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The Radford men's tennis program picked up an impressive win Wednesday afternoon on short rest with a dominant 5-1 victory over Jacksonville State.

The strong day began in doubles where the Highlanders wasted no time taking down their opponents on courts one and two for the early advantage. Demis Taramonlis and Dinos Raptis swept their opponent 6-0 on court one while Aditya Balsekar and Guilherme Severin were similarly dominant in a 6-1 win on court two.

Taramonlis would keep things rolling into singles play as he was dominant once again with a 6-1, 6-1 win on the top flight. Leading 2-1, four three-set matches would decide the fate of the match as the Highlanders battled in enemy territory. Raptis picked up another win on court three for Radford 6-2, 3-6, 7-6(4) to give Radford the 3-1 edge needing just one more court.

Robert Hagen would provide that one court for the Highlanders, winning in three sets on court five 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-4 to clinch the match in Radford's favor. Already up 4-1, Radford picked up another win thanks to Balsekar who held on 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-1 to move the lead to 5-1. Charles Courteau was battling in a tiebreaker in his third set 2-6, 7-6(1), 6-6 before rain forced things to go unfinished on the final court.

It was a big win for the Highlanders who have won four of their last five and their fourth road match overall on the season. Jacksonville State came in to today boasting a 4-1 record at home and winners of their last two meetings.

UP NEXT
With a bulk of their road matches behind them, the Highlanders are looking forward to finally returning home. Radford is currently slated to host their home opener and first Big South match next week on March 16th at 2 p.m. against Longwood.
