Piatt, Taliaferro Start Strong At Sea Palms Invitational

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Nathan Piatt and Nicholas Taliaferro both shoot under par as the Radford men's golf team ends the first round of the Sea Palms Invitational tied for 11^th place.

Piatt paced the Highlanders with a 2-under par 69 on the day, sinking three birdies and adding a huge eagle on the 13^th hole. His 4.25 stroke average on Par 5's matched the fifth-best performance of anyone in the 120-golfer field.

Taliaferro came extraordinarily close to having himself an error-free round, tallying four birdies and 13 pars through the first 17 holes. His day ended with a double bogey on the Par 4 18^th hole, but he's still in the top 25 with a 2-under par 69. His forte was Par 3's, on which he averaged 2.80 strokes – the third-best showing in the entire field.

Next up on the scorecard was Bryce Corbett, who shot a +1 (72) in the first round, good for T-51^st place. He notched birdies on the fourth, 11^th, and 13^th holes but was hurt by a pair of bogeys and a double bogey on the Par 4 12^th hole.

Patrick Gareiss (+6) and Max Van De Kuilen (+7) rounded out the group, combining for four birdies and 12 bogeys in an up-and-down day. It was the first official outing as a Highlander for Van De Kuilen, who will have two more rounds to boost his stock in St. Simons Island this weekend.

As a team, Radford struggled on Par 3's, averaging 3.36 strokes for a combined +9. The Highlanders did well to make up for it on Par 5's, going -7 on those holes with a 4.65 stroke average.
