Highlanders Fall in Tight Contest with James Madison

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford men's tennis program fell in a tightly contested match Tuesday afternoon with a tough James Madison squad 4-3.

A tight doubles point would set the tone for the two squads' battle on the afternoon. After James Madison took court two, Radford responded with a big win on court one 7-5 thanks to Demis Taramonlis and Dinos Raptis. Robert Hagen and Charles Courteau sealed the early advantage for the Highlanders in comeback fashion winning 7-6(9) on court three.

James Madison evened the match quickly in singles play with a win on court three. Raptis responded for the Highlanders winning a pair of tiebreakers in two sets to put Radford back out front 2-1. James Madison would go on a tear from there, however, coming back from first set losses on two courts to win three straight and clinch the match at 4-2.

Radford would get another point on the day before the match came to a close thanks to Taramonlis who gutted out an impressive victory on the top flight. Taramonlis battled back after a hot start to win a third-set tiebreaker 6-2, 6-7, 7-6(4).
