HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Radford University women's track & field team followed up a strong showing at Duke last weekend with another sensational performance at the JMU Invitational on Saturday. The day was highlighted by a win in the 3,000-meter steeplechase from
Savannah Hoff and 11 different personal records being set.
When it comes to the field events, the Highlanders impressed across the board. The sisterly duo of
Mya Rosser and
Jaylen Rosser both set a pair of personal records in the discus throw and shot put. Another personal-best mark came in via
Maddie Wright who finished in the top five of the javelin throw with a distance of 27.65 meters.
Elyssia Fisher had an impressive day in the long jump as she earned a trip to the event's finals and rounded out the list of scoring competitors.
Radford continued to lay down sensational performances, highlighted by a pair of podium finishers in Hoff and
Kate McLearen in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Hoff won the event with a time of 11:27.63 while McLearen was not far behind with a time of 11:48.70. Both runners posted times good enough to add their name to the program's all-time top-ten list for that event.
Sophie Magson and
MegAnne Gilmore both recorded personal-best times in the 1,500-meter race as the duo also earned top-five finishing positions. Magson posted a time of 4:35.62 to place fourth and Gilmore came across the line fifth thanks to a 4:37.07 effort.
Magson added her second personal record of the day when she recorded a 2:15.32 outing in the 800-meter race.
Katelyn Lafon finished just behind Magson and she too tallied a personal-time time (2:21.92).
Kandace McIvor laid down a sensational performance in the 200-meter dash. The freshman sprinter came across the line with a time of 25.81 seconds, a personal record.
The Highlanders continued to thrive in the hurdling events as well.
Julia Burkley and
Jaslyne Robinson both competed in the 400-meter hurdles. Both of them scored and set personal records and earned all-time top-ten spots with times of 1:04.51 and 1:06.86, respectively.
In the 100-meter hurdles, three new season-best times were set. Robinson led the group with a time of 15.08 seconds. McIvor and Wright both posted sub-17-second times.
The Highlanders closed out the day with a nice performance in the 4x400-meter relay. The team of Burkley, Fisher,
