CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Following a pair of sensational performances this past weekend at the JMU Invitational, Sophie Magson has been named the Big South Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced this afternoon.

Magson is coming off a strong day that saw her post two personal records in both the 1,500-meter and 800-meter races. She started off her competition with a time of 4:35.62 to place fourth in the 1,500-meter race. Just a few hours later, she doubled down by crossing the line in 2:15.32 in the 800-meter race to round out the podium.

The Essex, London native picked up her third weekly honor of this academic year, dating back to a strong cross country season. She also moved up the team's all-time top-ten list in both events; she now has the fourth-fastest 1,500-meter time and fifth-fastest 800-meter time in program history.
