Highlanders Topped by USC Upstate in Series Opener 8-2

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Julian Rojas hit another home run, but it was not enough as the Radford baseball team fell to USC Upstate 8-2 in the series opener at Harley Baseball Park on Friday evening.
Radford (8-31, 0-13 Big South) surrendered the first four runs of the game before getting on the board in the fifth inning. With a runner on second and one out, shortstop Avery Spencer laced an RBI double down the left field line that plated Paul Moore, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
Later in the seventh, Rojas sent a solo blast to left field, giving him his team-leading eighth homer of the season.
Second baseman Sully Tibbs was 2-for-4 in the loss, while first baseman Tanner Barrs went 1-for-3 with a walk.
RHP Foster Seitz pitched a scoreless inning in relief, tossing a clean seventh.
USC Upstate (24-15, 10-3) was led by Cole Caruso, who recorded three RBI. Spartans' starting pitcher Reese Dutton earned the win on the mound, tossing six innings of one-run ball. Dylan Howard took the loss for the visitors.

Radford will get right back at it as they take on Upstate in game two of the series at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
