Men’s Tennis Falls 4-1 in Big South Semifinals

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Radford men's tennis program's season came to an end Friday afternoon in the Big South Semifinals as the team fell to the top-seed Gardner-Webb 4-1.

The senior duo of Demis Taramonlis and Dinos Raptis got the match started right for the Highlanders as the duo were dominant collecting yet another win on the top flight 6-3. The Highlanders had to move players around in the rest of their lineup due to injuries, and Gardner-Webb took the bottom two doubles courts for the 1-0 lead.

In singles play, Taramonlis continued to work with ease. The Greek native won easily 6-2, 6-1 on court one. With that victory, Taramonlis finishes his Radford career undefeated in Big South Tournament singles play with a 4-0 overall record with three of those wins on court one.

Gardner-Webb would secure the three courts they need in singles play, however, for the eventual 4-1 final. Guilherme Severin and Charles Courteau provided hard fought battles for the Highlanders. Severin won his first set on court three 6-3 while Courteau refused to go away on court six battling to a 5-4 lead in the second set before going unfinished.

Despite going down a player due to injury late in the season, Radford continued to fight and secure their third straight trip to Marion Diehl Park for the Big South Tournament. Seniors Raptis and Taramonlis left their marks on Highlander history and the talented team stays poised to continue making noise in future seasons.
