RADFORD, Va. — The Radford baseball team led for a majority of the contest, but were unable to contain an ETSU rally in the late innings as they fell to the Buccaneers 9-3 on Tuesday evening at Carter Memorial Stadium.
Left fielder Zack Whitacre had a fine day for the Highlanders, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and six total bases. In the first inning, Whitacre got the scoring started with a solo home run to center field, putting his team ahead 1-0.
In the third, the senior tacked on a sacrifice fly to drive in right fielder Paul Moore. He also added a double in the sixth, and came around to score on a wild pitch to put his team ahead 3-1.
RHP Landon Higgerson got the start for Radford (8-34), tossing two scoreless innings. For Higgerson, it was his nation-leading 27th appearance of the season.
ETSU (18-20) took a commanding lead in the eighth inning with a six-run outburst. Cameron Sisneros led the way for the Buccaneers with a 3-for-5 night.
Derek McCarley earned the win for the visitors, tossing three scoreless frames. Foster Seitz took the loss for Radford.Â
