HIGH POINT, N.C. – Rainy conditions weren't much help on Saturday afternoon as the Radford University women's lacrosse team fell to High Point by a final score of 15-5 at Vert Stadium. The day was highlighted by junior goalkeeper
Olivia Hunter, who tallied her 300
th career save.
It was High Point that pieced together the stronger start, which ultimately benefitted Hunter who reached her milestone save just three minutes into the contest. The Panthers jumped on the board first and held a 5-0 lead after the opening quarter.
The Highlanders responded in the second period when
Mady Cheney put the visitors on the board with her 13
th goal of the season. As the two teams continued to trade punches, it was
Reece Morrish that found the back of the net with less than a minute remaining in the half. An even quarter gave High Point a 7-2 lead at the half.
The Panthers continued to build on their lead fresh out of the halftime break. A trio of goals were scored in the third quarter and all three went the way of the hosts.
Facing an eight-goal deficit entering the final period, the Highlanders continued to fight. Radford netted the first two goals of the quarter.
Margaret Gleason scored the squad's third goal of the day and kept her scoring streak alive. The Brentwood, Tenn. native has now scored in every game she has played in this season.
Linley Tirrell then fired home a shot off an assist from
Erica Lawrence to trim High Point's lead to six. After a pair of Panther goals, the duo of Tirrell and Lawrence connected again. This time it was Tirrell feeding Lawrence, who slotted home Radford's final goal of the contest.
Five different Highlanders (Cheney, Morrish, Gleason, Tirrell and Lawrence) all contributed with one goal apiece. Hunter continued her stellar season in goal, tallying 12 saves in the game.
