SALEM, S.C. – It was an incredible third round for the reigning Big South Player of the Year as Radford men's golf's Bryce Corbett shot a -6 (66) to end his 54-hole journey through the NCAA Salem Regional at 7-under par and in a tie for 20th place out of 75 competitors.
Â
Corbett's final scoreline for the tournament was 73-70-66—209, spelling out a steady improvement and growing confidence from round to round.Â
Â
Just like Tuesday, Corbett set the tone with a birdie on the first hole of the day. He kept the momentum going and remained flawless throughout a front nine that included a trio of birdies and six pars.
Â
Back-to-back birdies on the 12th and 13th holes brought his score to -5 until an unfortunate slice into the water on the 16th hole resulted in his first and only bogey in the round.
Â
After a bounce-back par on the 17th hole, Corbett crushed his tee shot and hit a perfectly place approach shot right near the pin on the 18th hole. His putt for birdie was true, bringing his season to an end in style.
Â
He was one of the very best golfers in the field on Par 4's, shooting 6-under. Finishing at 4-under on Par 5's as well, the longer holes were the key to his success.
Â
Georgia Tech won the tournament as a team and will advance to the NCAA National Championships alongside Arkansas, North Carolina, New Mexico and Texas A&M, who defeated Clemson in a playoff.
Â
Furman's Sam Lape earned the individual bid to the National Championships by shooting -15 and placing second on the leaderboard.
