Spring 2023 Semester Produces Amazing Academic Performance from Radford Student-Athletes

RADFORD, Va. – In one of the best academic semesters the Radford University Athletics Department has ever seen, 86% of Highlander student-athletes achieved a 3.0 grade point average of better during the Spring 2023 semester.

An astonishing 243 out of 281 student-athletes reached the 3.0 mark, helping 15 out of the 16 Highlanders' varsity athletics programs report a team GPA of 3.0 or better as well.

"I am so proud of our student-athletes' performance in the classroom this spring!" said Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Support Services Allison McCoy. "Our student-athletes put in so much hard work and it is wonderful to see it pay off in such an incredible way."

Beyond that, 193 Highlanders earned a 3.40 GPA or higher, placing them on the Radford University Dean's List, while 62 of those student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.0.

The women's tennis team, led by first-year head coach Grace Reed, topped all squads with a 3.84 term GPA and a 3.91 cumulative GPA. Women's basketball (3.65 GPA) and women's lacrosse (3.63 GPA) were close behind while fellow first-year head coach J.D. Shade's men's tennis program led all men's teams with a 3.57 GPA.

With that being said, GPA is only one measurement of success away from athletic competition. Radford's student-athletes also represented the department extraordinarily well in faculty-led research opportunities, internships, community service/volunteer outreach, and more.
