Men’s Tennis Sees First Action of Fall at Elon Invitational

ELON, N.C. – The Radford men's tennis team kicked off their fall season this weekend at the Elon Invitational with multiple winning efforts highlighted by Manfredi Vergine's three singles wins in four matches.

In Friday's action Manfredi got his big weekend started with a dominant early win 6-1, 6-0 over Owen Dooley from Wofford. Charles Courteau also picked up a win in his fall debut over Jack Deveny from Wofford 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. In doubles action, the duo of Robert Hagen and Filippo Marangoni picked up a bounce-back win over the duo of Gloris/Glenn from UNC Greensboro.

Saturday played host to a majority of the action for the Highlanders. Vergine went unbeaten on the afternoon picking up singles wins over Evan Pugh from College of Charleston 6-0, 6-3 and Mathieu Dussaubut from North Carolina A&T 6-3, 7-5.

Guilherme Severin also finished his weekend singles action with a win over Ashe Raye from Wofford 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (5). Before moving back to doubles, Hagen rounded out the singles wins with his victory over Lucas Cuopo from North Carolina A&T 6-3, 6-2.

Rain would wash out competition on Sunday, completing the weekend tournament for the Highlanders.

Radford will be back in action in a couple weeks when they head to Lynchburg, Va. to compete in the ITA Regionals hosted by Liberty University. Doubles and singles action begins on Wednesday, October 11th and will run through Monday, October 16th.
