Highlanders Earn Second Straight Shutout, Finish in Tie with Lancers

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's soccer program posted another scoreless 90 minutes on the defensive end against Longwood tonight, but ultimately settled for the 0-0 tie.

KEY STATS
  • Radford posted back-to-back shutouts for the second time this season.
  • The Highlanders earned six corners, two more than the Lancers, but all six came in the first half.
  • Coming off the bench, Jashyra Johnson led both teams with two shots on goal.

PLAY BY PLAY
Radford's offense didn't waste much time getting to work in Wednesday night's meeting, with the Highlanders ripping off two shots and earning a corner in just the first four minutes of play. One of those shots, off the foot of Eileen Albers, came in like a bullet past the goalie but just missed the net as it bounced off the right woodwork.

The Highlanders would continue to control possession throughout the first 45 minutes, earning multiple scoring opportunities. A slew of corners to end the first half would come up empty, however, as the two programs remained deadlocked 0-0.

The second half wound up much more quiet than the first as neither team was able to scratch across many scoring opportunities. In the 82nd minute, Radford would play the rest of the match a man down. The Highlanders held on, and even maintained a majority of possession, to eventually draw with the Lancers in the 0-0 final.

HEAD COACH SOHRABI QUOTABLE
"Tonight we didn't play the best. We didn't do a great job with the little parts of the game and could have done better. This time of the year we have to be better than that. A lot of credit to Longwood to coming out here with a good energy and our girls did respond to that." – Ben Sohrabi.

AROUND THE BIG SOUTH
  • High Point earned a strong victory at home, 2-0 over Presbyterian to move into first in the conference standings.
  • USC Upstate and Winthrop battled to a 1-1 tie to split a point in the standings.
  • UNC Asheville earned their first win of conference play with a 2-0 victory over Gardner-Webb.
