Trio of Goals Pushes Women’s Soccer Past Presbyterian in Regular Season Finale

CLINTON, S.C. – The Radford women's soccer program used a trio of evenly spaced goals to earn a dominant 3-0 road win at Presbyterian in their regular season finale Saturday afternoon.

KEY STATS
  • Jashyra Johnson's goal in the opening minutes was her third this season, tied for third-most on the team.
  • Hunter Rosenberg scored her first collegiate goal with the Highlanders.
  • Eileen Albers' goal was her seventh of the season, moving her point total to 17, which is second-best on the team.
  • Lexi Radvanyi earned six saves as the Radford defense posted its second straight shutout.

PLAY BY PLAY
With both teams still fighting for postseason positioning in the Big South Tournament, the intensity was on display from the start. It was the Highlanders who would strike quickly, however, in a goal that would eventually be the decider.

Paige Olson, after shaking a defender, drove into the box and placed a perfect cross to the waiting Johnson who struck it perfectly to the bottom right corner of the net for the 1-0 lead.

After Radford's defense was tested resulting in three saves by Radvanyi, the offense would strike again before the first half closed. Rosenberg, sprinting in from about 30 yards out all the way to the top of the box, would land another perfect strike for Radford to the bottom right corner of the goal to double the lead at 2-0.

Throughout the second half, Radford's defense continued to stand strong dispelling multiple Blue Hose attacks. With the defense doing its job, the offense got to add to the lead with just 10 minutes left in the match.

Olson, taking a feed from Albers, once again was able to speed past the defense into the corner. She would cross it back to the wide-open Albers who wasted no time striking the ball past the goalie to make it a 3-0 Radford advantage. That lead would hold to the finish as Radford earned the 3-0 win.

NOTABLES
  • Radford's three goals came almost evenly throughout the match. The first goal came in the opening 10 minutes, the second right before half time, and the third goal in the final 10 minutes.
  • Radford finishes Big South play with a winning record for the seventh straight season.
  • Radford now owns a 14-3-1 edge in the series history against Presbyterian, winning the last four straight matches scoring 3+ goals in each of those contests.
  • Since October 5th, Radford's defense has only allowed one goal in the last 450 minutes played.

HEAD COACH SOHRABI QUOTABLE
"I thought we played very well today on the road in very hot conditions for this time of year. I think Presbyterian is a much improved team and we had to play at a top level to get the result. We scored some great goals today and I was really happy with another shutout." – Ben Sohrabi.

AROUND THE BIG SOUTH
  • Longwood picked up a big 2-0 victory at Charleston Southern to finish their regular season.
  • High Point used a slew of second half goals to move past UNC Asheville 5-1.
  • Gardner-Webb and USC Upstate will both close out their regular seasons later tonight with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
