Head Coach Kevin Fagan Reveals Loaded 2025 Softball Schedule

RADFORD, Va. – First year head coach Kevin Fagan revealed Radford Softball's 2025 schedule Thursday afternoon with a loaded field of competition including nine teams from last season's NCAA Tournament field.

The Highlanders will start their 2025 campaign competing at The Spring Games hosted in Leesburg, Fla. from Feb. 7-9. The weekend slate features two power programs in Louisville and Rutgers. Radford will face the reigning Horizon tournament champions Cleveland State twice and will also face CUSA foe Middle Tennessee.

Radford will return home for a quick midweek doubleheader that opens action at Radford Softball Stadium. The Highlanders will host Queens (NC) on Feb. 11 starting at 1 p.m., their first two of three scheduled games against the Royals this season. Radford and Queens (NC) split their doubleheader last season in the New River Valley.

Back on the road the following weekend, the Highlanders will take on the Pirate Clash hosted by East Carolina from Feb. 14-16. It's another loaded weekend for Radford starting with a pair of games against old school Big South foe UMBC, marking the first time the two programs have played since 2003. Radford also faces the hosts East Carolina twice and Boston who finished last season receiving votes in national polls after advancing to the NCAA Tournament.

The Highlanders will stick to the Commonwealth for their next weekend tournament at the Liberty Softball Classic from Feb. 21-23. The weekend features doubleheaders meetings with Saint Joseph's and Hofstra. Radford will also take on Charleston Southern in nonconference action and the weekend hosts Liberty.

Before Radford's next weekend tournament, the team will make the trip to Knoxville, Tenn. to take on Tennessee on Feb. 26 for a midweek battle. The Volunteers finished last season ranked ninth in the nation after falling just short in the NCAA Tournament Super Regionals. Radford and Tennessee last met in 2012.

Radford will close out February and usher in March when they make the quick trip to Salem, Va. to take part in the Hokie Invite from Feb. 28-Mar. 2. The weekend features another pair of 2024 NCAA Tournament opponents in Penn State (at-large selection) and Villanova (Big East Champions). The Highlanders will also take on Robert Morris, Bucknell and Queens (NC) during the weekend tournament.

Before heading to their final weekend tournament of the season, Radford will be at home for a pair of midweek doubleheaders. On Mar. 4 Radford will host Sacred Heart before turning around to host Holy Cross on Mar. 5 for another doubleheader.

To close out tournament action, Radford competes in the James Madison Tournament between Mar. 7-9. The weekend begins and ends against the host Dukes. In between, Radford will also take on Furman and Binghamton. Following the tournament, Radford visits another ACC foe in North Carolina for a single game on Mar. 11.

Radford will visit Gardner-Webb for their first conference weekend of the season on Mar. 14 and 15. Following that, the Highlanders are back at home hosting Charlotte for a single game on Mar. 18. The 49ers mark another NCAA Tournament foe for the Highlanders after they won the American Conference in 2024 and advanced to the Athens Regional. The Highlanders will also visit UNC Greensboro the next day on Mar. 19.

Back at home for the weekend, the Highlanders open home conference play against the reigning tournament and regular season champions. Radford and USC Upstate are set for a three-game series between Mar. 28 and 29. The following week, Radford makes another nonconference trip to Campbell, who finished runner up in the CAA in 2024, on April 1.

Radford visits Charleston Southern the following weekend for another three-game series of Big South play between April 4 and 5. UNC Greensboro will make a return trip to Radford on April 9 before Radford hosts a big weekend series against in-state Big South rival Longwood between April 11 and 12.

After a quick visit to Virginia on Apr. 15, another power foe and NCAA Tournament participant from 2024, Radford finishes their home slate with another conference series. Radford and Winthrop are set for a three-game series starting on Apr. 18.

Closing out the regular season with five straight road games, Radford makes a midweek stop at Marshall (Apr. 22) before visiting Presbyterian for three games (May 2-3). The top five seeded teams in the conference standings will advance to the Big South Tournament this season which is set to take place in Clinton, S.C. from May 7-11.
