Women’s Basketball Back in Win Column with Strong Effort Against UVA Wise

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's basketball program got back in the win column Friday afternoon in front of the home faithful with a strong 96-54 final over UVA Wise.

After UVA Wise took an early 2-0 lead, Radford would punch right back with six straight points to take a lead they'd never forfeit. Taylor Napper started the scoring while Cate Carlon followed with a pair of layups.
With five minutes to go in the first, redshirt freshman Adelyn Traylor-Walker caught fire scoring her first points in and-one fashion to give Radford an 11-7 lead. After points from Anna Stromberg and Makayla Firebaugh, Traylor-Walker finished the quarter with seven straight points including a three that made it a 24-11 Radford advantage.
Starting off the second quarter was Carlson who sunk a three and got another one the old-fashioned way with an and-one. Traylor-Walker sunk another three making it a 33-11 Radford lead. The Cavaliers were able to go on a 5-0 run, but Adriana Shipp-Davis halted it with a nifty layup.
Radford's offense continued to come from all places as Firebaugh, Angelina Nice, Kirah Dandridge and Napper all added makes to keep Radford pacing ahead. After a three by Firebaugh in the closing seconds of the half, Radford held the 49-28 lead with 20 minutes to play.
Napper once again started Radford's scoring efforts with a layup in the second half as Traylor-Walker continued to cook with another three-pointer that extended the lead. Shipp-Davis exploded for a quick three points thanks to a three and a transition bucket. Joi Williams hit a three and Firebaugh added another triple as Radford continued to cruise ahead 74-39.
Five more points by Traylor-Walker began the fourth quarter as the newcomer continued her career day. Kirby Brown added a pair of makes late and Ava Sawi sunk her first points at home as Radford finished with a 96-54 victory.

The Highlanders will break for the holidays before returning for their next home contest scheduled for December 29th against Bluefield University. Action is set to tip at 2 p.m. and be streamed on ESPN+.
