Georgia Tech Defeats Highlanders in Series Opener

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets scored 10 runs in the first three innings en route to their 21-8 win over the Highlanders on Friday evening at Russ Chandler Stadium.

In the first inning of today's series opener, the Highlanders started strong as they secured six runs in the inning. Cameron Pittman started things with a single while Conner Butler and Carson Bell drew walks to load the bases. Drew Biggerstaff drew a hit by pitch to score the first run of the season and Austin Stalker followed him with a double that scored Bell and Butler for the 3-0 lead.

A Gavin Troutman ground out grew the lead to 4-0 and a perfectly executed double steal by Stalker and Corbin Grantham pushed the lead to 5-0. A Hunter Keen single rounded things out for the 6-0 lead as Radford batted around to start the game.

Georgia Tech would respond right away as they were able to secure five runs for themselves to end the first inning and make it a 6-5 game. A scoreless second kept the lead in place until the third where Georgia Tech scored five runs to take a 10-6 lead.

Radford got two of those runs back in the fourth. Pittman continued his strong game with a double to right. Pittman stole third and Butler followed with a walk. After Butler stole second, Zack Whitacre singled both home to make it just a 10-8 game.

From there, however, the Highlanders would be held scoreless over the final five innings. Georgia Tech scored three runs in the sixth, six runs in the seventh, and one run in the eighth for the eventual 21-8 final score.
