Eighth Inning Rally by Notre Dame Leads to Highlanders 11-6 Defeat

RADFORD, Va. - The Radford Baseball program fell to Notre Dame on Wednesday evening at Sherman Carter Memorial Stadium after an eighth inning rally would see the Fighting Irish take the second game of the midweek contests.

For the first inning of the game the Highlanders would get off to the early lead with Conner Butler coming in and homering to left field that would give the Highlanders the early 1-0 lead before heading to the second.

In the third inning, the Fighting Irish would respond right away with a homer to left field that would tie this one up. Cameron Pittman would give the Highlanders back the lead as Zack Whitacre would single to right field bringing in Pittman for the score. The Highlanders had the opportunity to add on another run with Butler on third but he was unfortunately caught stealing right before he could reach home.

In the sixth the Fighting Irish would add on three runs to make the score 4-2. But the Highlanders would respond right away as Carson Bell would strike Radford's second home run of the game bringing him and Conner Butler to home to tie it right back up at 4-4.

The Highlanders would score a pair of runs in the seventh to add to their total to reclaim the lead as a Pittman single to right field allowed Jhonkeanu Perez who pinch ran for Brady Whitacre to find home. A sacrifice fly by Ben Williams would allow Grantham to score the second run making things 6-4 before heading to the eighth.

Notre Dame would rally in the eighth that would allow them to score seven runs and take the lead. The Highlanders would be unable to find an answer in the last two innings, leaving this one at 11-6 at the game's end.
