Late Runs by VMI Leads to Highlanders 9-8 loss

LEXINGTON, Va. - The Radford Baseball team fell Tuesday evening at Gray-Minor Stadium after VMI scored four runs in the eighth inning to take the midweek matchup win.

In the first inning, the Highlanders got off to an electric start scoring four in the top half. A Conner Butler sacrifice fly would get things started as it would drag Cameron Pittman in for the run. With Drew Biggerstaff on first, Carson Bell would notch a home run to add on two more runs for the Highlanders. Keen would go back-to-back with another home run to give the Highlanders the early 4-0 lead heading to the bottom of the inning. However, the Keydets would get back one before heading to the second.

The Highlanders would add on another in the second after Conner Butler would single to left field hauling in Troutman for the run. VMI would respond by adding a pair of runs to cut the Radford lead to 5-3 heading to the third. For the fourth Mason Self would reach home off a fielder's choice to push the Highlander lead to 6-3. However, the Keydets would once more cut the deficit adding on a pair of runs to trail the Highlanders by one to end the inning.

In the sixth, the Highlanders would plate two as Pittman would single to right center that would bring in Troutman and Self for the runs, but in the eighth, VMI would add four runs to rip away the lead from the Highlanders and finish this one out at 9-8.
