Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Highlanders Downed by Longwood in Conference Opener

FARMVILLE, Va. – Radford women's lacrosse fell to Longwood 14-8 in a rainy Wednesday night contest in Farmville, Va.

As a result of turnovers on both sides and Olivia Hunter's save skills, the game went scoreless for the first 4 minutes. Longwood was able to find an opening to end the scoring drought. Laura Ferko kicked things off for Radford to set the game 2-1 in favor of Longwood. After a caused turnover by Ferko, the Highlanders were ready to keep the high going. With a feed from Margaret Gleason, Kaitlyn Lytton's shot met the back of the net to tie up the game ending the first quarter.

Halfway through the quarter, the Highlanders found themselves down by two again until Gleason took her first free position shot of the game. Using this advantage as well as a man up opportunity, she was able to get her first goal of the game making it 4-3. Longwood responded and  were able to pull ahead once more. However, Maddie Abbott retaliated after a slick feed from Piper Galbraith to keep the game tight at 5-4.

The second half started with Longwood trying to extend their 6-4 lead. However, Hunter would not let them as she stopped back-to-back shots. Mady Cheney set things up for Reece Morrish as she earned the first goal of the half. From there, it was a back-and-forth scoring match with another goal from Gleason holding the Lancers to a two point lead. Molly O'Brien was able to turn it into a one point game as she earned her goal on a man-up free position.

The final quarter brought a 6-1 run from Longwood to end the game 14-8. Radford's goal came from Cheney with an assist from Galbraith.
