STATESBORO, Ga. - The Radford Baseball program fell to Georgia Southern after an eighth inning rally would see the Eagles take game two of the series on Saturday night at J.I. Clements Stadium.
For the first six innings of today's contest, the Highlanders would once again find themselves in a pitchers' duel against the Eagles. Dylan Howard was the star for the Highlanders as he would keep the Eagles scoreless in those six innings of work, recording two hits, one walk and four strikeouts in the process. Radford's defense also played a crucial role in leaving the Eagles scoreless in those first six frames with their biggest play of the night coming in the bottom of the fifth where first baseman Carson Bell would make a critical throw to catcher Brady Whitacre to get the out on the Georgia Southern player right before he could reach home plate.
However, in the seventh, the Eagles would finally break through the Highlanders' sturdy defense and score the first run of the contest before heading to the eighth. The Highlanders would respond with a run of their own after a wild pitch would bring in Cameron Pittman for the run to even things up.
But a rally by the Eagles in the bottom of the eighth would see them tack on six more runs to regain their lead. The Highlanders were unable to find a response in the ninth leaving the final score at 7-1 at the conclusion of tonight's match.
