RADFORD, Va. - The Radford Baseball team's ninth inning comeback powered by Corbin Grantham fell just short leaving the final score of today's series opener at 5-4 Friday evening at Sherman Carter Memorial Stadium.
For the first inning The Bulldogs would put themselves on the board first in game one of the series as they were able to secure the pair of runs to get the 2-0 lead. Asheville would add on another run in the fourth to extend their lead to 3-0.
The Highlanders would respond in the fifth after a wild pitch would bring in Corbin Grantham to chip away at the Bulldogs' lead and head to the sixth at 3-1. However, the Bulldogs would tack on two more in the sixth to pull away from the Highlanders at 5-1. In the seventh Corbin Grantham would aid the Highlander cause as he would triple through the right side and Cameron Pittman would ground out to the second baseman allowing Grantham to find home plate once again.
In the ninth, Corbin Grantham would be able to tack on a pair of runs for the Highlanders. Perez would lead off in the inning and find first after he was hit by a pitch. Grantham would continue his impressive performance by hitting his first home run of the season to right field that would bring him and Perez home for two runs and bring the Highlanders within one run from UNC Asheville. But the Highlanders' comeback attempt would fall just short as the Bulldogs were able to secure the final three outs and leave game one of the series at 5-4.
