RADFORD, Va. - The Radford Baseball team would go on an offensive eruption to earn the game three win over UNC Asheville at 13-9 Sunday afternoon at Carter Memorial Stadium.
In the first inning of the series finale, the Bulldogs would be on the board first as they took the early 3-0 lead. The Highlanders would respond swiftly in the same inning with six of their own.
Giving the Highlanders their first run and beginning the rally would be none other than Cameron Pittman as he would reach home off a wild pitch. Austin Stalker would single to second base to bring in Carson Bell for the second run and a sacrifice fly by Conner Butler would allow Zack Whitacre to tie the game.
Drew Biggerstaff would single to center field to bring in Stalker for the lead and a Hunter Keen double to left center would allow Biggerstaff to give the Highlanders the two run lead. Jhonkeanu Perez singled to left center to bring in the final run of the inning and give the Highlanders the three run cushion at 6-3.
For the third, the Highlanders would collect three more runs to add to their lead. Zack Whitacre would bring in his second run of the day off a wild pitch. A fielder's choice off the bat of Perez would open the opportunity for Butler to find home plate and Pittman would hit his second single of the day to drive in Biggerstaff and push the Highlander lead to 9-3.
However, in the fourth, UNC Asheville would go on a bit of a tear as they were able to add on five runs that would cut the Highlander lead to one at 9-8. The Bulldogs would put up their last run of the day to tie up the game at 9-9, but Drew Stanley would limit the damage in the inning as he was able to get the punch out and strand the runner who was in a scoring position.
In the sixth, the Highlanders would reclaim the lead after Pittman would record his second run off another wild pitch. With bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth, Conner Butler would answer the call as he would double to right center and it would be enough to clear the bases and give the Highlanders the comfortable 13-9 lead.
Eli Parks would come in at the mound in the top of the ninth to get the three outs and secure the win for the Highlanders, crediting Parks with his first save of his career.
