BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Radford Baseball team fell, 7-1, to 23rd-ranked Virginia Tech Tuesday night at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park.
In the first inning of tonight's game against Virginia Tech, the Hokies would put themselves on the board first as they were able to secure an early run to give themselves the 1-0 lead. Immediately after the run, the Hokies would have the bases loaded with zero outs, but Jordan Irizarry would keep those runners at bay and limit the damage to just one run as he would go on to strike out two batters and retire a third to finish off the inning.The Hokies would add to their lead in the third, putting up a pair of runs in the inning to make it a 3-0 game.
Ben Keefe would come in for Irizarry in the fourth and would keep Virginia Tech off the board in the inning. But, Virginia Tech would once again increase their lead in the fifth, after a two-run homer to left center and a solo shot home run down the right field line would give them the three runs in the inning and push their lead to 6-0. The Hokies would tack on their final run of the night in the eighth to give them the 7-0 lead. In the ninth, Zack Whitacre would homer to center field notching his sixth home run of the season and giving Radford their solo run of the night and cap off the New River Valley rivalry game at 7-1.

Zack Whitacre recorded his sixth home run of the season. This home run will place him in a tie for the second most on the Radford roster with Hunter Keen who also has six on the season. The home run is also just one shy of Whitacre's season high.

Whitacre's home run will also make it his 21st RBI of the season putting him in a tie for fourth with Cameron Pittman in the category.

The Highlanders will once again hit the road to Johnson City, Tenn. to face off against ETSU for the Highlanders second midweek game. The game will be played at Thomas Stadium on Wednesday, Apr. 17. And is set for a 5 P.M. start and will be live streamed on ESPN+.
