RADFORD, Va. – Radford women's lacrosse dominated in their mid-week matchup against Gardner-Webb winning 16-6 Wednesday afternoon. Mady Cheney spearheaded the victory with four goals with an addition of nine other scorers from the Highlanders.

The game started with a bang for the Highlanders as Cheney earned back-to-back goals on free-position attempts. The Bulldogs responded for the only goal allowed by Olivia Hunter. From there, Radford couldn't be stopped at they went on 9-0 run, shutting out Gardner-Webb in the second period.
 
Linley Tirrell kicked off this scoring chain for the Highlanders. Molly O'Brien found a way with a caused turnover for Margaret Gleason's second goal putting Radford ahead 4-1. Ashlyn Grogan found her way to the scoring column with a feed from River Rupert to set the game at 6-1. The final goals of the first quarter came from man-up opportunities by Gleason and Cheney.
 
Entering the second period with an 8-1 lead, Radford wasn't ready to slow down as Cheney won the draw control. After a ground ball pickup to maintain possession, the Highlanders set a play behind the net with Grogan to toss the ball to Reece Morrish allowing her only goal of the game. The next eight minutes consisted of a battle of turnovers until Taylor Rogahn caused a turnover for McKenzie Hines to scoop up. Hines continued her luck as her shot met the back of the net to set the score at 10-1. The final goal of the first half came from a free position attempt as Erica Lawrence gave Radford a ten point lead to close the half.
 
The Bulldogs were finally able to break Radford's hot streak to make the score 11-2. Josie Helpard was not ready to give up a long lead as she scooped up the ground ball to sprint down the field giving the Highlanders a chance to set up leading to Cheney's fourth and final goal of the game. Ava LaManna saved a free-position shot to earn back possession. Freshman Madison Driscoll earned her second goal of the season with an assist from Kaitlyn Lytton.
 
The fourth quarter started off with a battle of turnovers. It wasn't until the 11^th minute mark, O'Brien fought her way in to give the Highlanders a 15-3 lead. From there, Gardner-Webb went on a short 3-0 run. However, Lytton wasn't done as she scored the final goal of the game to clinch the 16-6 win.

KEY STATS

• Olivia Hunter tallied a 67% save percentage between the pipes.
• Defenders Josie Helpard (6), Emily Strother (4), River Rupert (4) and Anna Mason (3) all earned single-game career highs in ground balls.
• Radford outperformed Gardner-Webb in every category.
