GREENSBORO, N.C - The Radford Baseball team were led by Austin Stalker's late three run home run in a 6-4 series opening win over UNC Greensboro Friday evening at UNCG Baseball Stadium.
The first inning two innings of today's non conference series would see the Highlanders deadlocked in a pitcher's duel with UNC Greensboro. Scott Rouse would shine through those innings as he was able to keep the Spartans off the board in those two innings of work. The Highlanders were able to tack on the first run in the third inning after a fielding error would see Austin Stalker who pinched hit for Cameron Pittman reach first and allowing Hunter Keen find home safely and giving Radford the early lead.
The Spartans in the bottom of the same inning secured a pair of runs and take the lead at 2-1 heading into the fourth. In the fifth Zack Whitacre would knot the game up at two a piece after he was able to single up the middle to allow Carson Bell who was on second base to round all the way home for the run.
The Highlanders would snatch the lead back from UNC Greensboro in the sixth. Hunter Keen would get things started in the inning as he was able to single to first base line to reach first, Grantham would immediately follow up with a single to through the left side and move Keen to second, and Austin Stalker would be the one to crank out his first home run of the season and garner the three runs for the Highlanders to lead 5-2.
Stalker would continue to run hot as he would double to left field in the eighth inning and would be brought home by Carson Bell who would single up the middle to give Stalker his second run of the game. However, the Spartans struck back in the bottom of the inning putting up two runs to draw them within two at 6-4. But Drew Stanley had other plans as he would retire the UNC Greensboro side in the bottom of the ninth and earn the 6-4 win for the Highlanders.
