Women’s Tennis Battles, Comes Up Short in Big South Semifinals

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Radford women's tennis program saw its season come to an end Friday afternoon in the semifinals of the Big South Tournament 4-0 against the top-seed UNC Asheville.

The Bulldogs gained a 1-0 advantage thanks to doubles play in the postseason meeting between the two squads. While UNC Asheville took courts one and three, Ameek Batth and Lexi Smolder were tied 4-4 on court two before going unfinished.

In singles, the Highlanders were competitive once again similar to their regular season meeting with the Bulldogs. UNC Asheville sealed the 4-0 final with wins on courts one, four and six. But on the remaining three courts, Radford was aiming to battle back.

After dropping her first set, Michaela Stephens came back with a force and was up 5-4 before going unfinished. On court three, Emily Brandow forced a similar situation winning her second set 6-4 to force a tiebreaker set before going unfinished.
