KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – Thanks to four top 20 individual finishes the Highlanders were able to secure a tie for second at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate to finish up the regular season on Tuesday evening.
The Highlanders shot three over par in round one, six under par in round two, and one over par in their third and final time on the course, tying with Western Kentucky to finish up the regular season.
Bryce Corbett was the leading man for the Highlanders as he would finish up his time on the course tying for first in the Individual leaderboard. Corbett would improve upon each round going 72 (+2) in round one, and 69 (-1) to finish up on day one leaving him T-16 finishing up day one. He would have his best day in the last round with 67 (-3) he would begin round three at hole 2 and would get off to a bit of a rough start as he would bogey the hole but would make up by recording birdies in the 5th, 8th, 9th, 11th, and 14th holes that would have him at four under par however, he would bogey the 16th hole to move him back to three under par. The performance would shoot him up to a three-way tie at first and force a playoff for the placement. He and his competitors would all record pars in the first two rounds of the playoff, but Corbett would fall in the third round as he would just miss the putt to par the hole once more.
Tying 13th was Patrick Gareiss he would go on to finish round one shooting two over par with six bogeys and four birdies. Round two would be his best day as he would record four birdies with three of does coming in the front nine. And would finish the last day shooting four over par and finish his time on the course at two over par after all three rounds.
Bobby Dudeck and Nick Taliaferro would both finish up the tournament tying 16th. Dudeck would go 68 (-2) in round one, 70 (E) in round two, and 75 (+5) in his final trip around the course. Taliaferro would improve upon each round by a stroke as he would go 72(+2) in the first, 71 (+1) in the second and an even 70 (E) to round out the last day.
Nathan Piatt and Jack Urban would both finish up round three at 72(+2) to move up in their final rounds. Piatt would move up two spots from day one to T-27th going six over par and Urban would move up four spots to T-32nd going seven over.
The Highlanders as a team would have the best average at 3.18 on par 3s out of all teams and have the second average on par 4s with 4.07 only trailing Jacksonville State by 0.01. The Highlanders would record the most birdies out of all teams at 206 and the second most birdies at 53 only trailing Western Kentucky in that category by two. Bobby Dudeck would record 39 pars, the most of all Highlanders and would tie for first in that category. Corbett would place third in most birdies with 12 only trailing by two from first.
