CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Radford Baseball team was blanked 6-0 in the series opener against Charleston Southern on Friday evening at Nielsen Field at CSU Ballpark.
Charleston Southern would get themselves on the board first after a sacrifice fly would notch a single run for the Buccaneers in the second inning of the series opener. For the third and fourth innings of the game the two teams would lock into a pitcher's duel. Ladd would shine through those innings as he was able to strand a runner in the third and go back-to-back on strikeouts in the fourth to keep score at 1-0.
However, in the fifth and sixth innings, the Buccaneers put up a pair in each inning to drive the score to 5-0. The Highlanders had a chance to draw in a run in the sixth after a single through the left side by Breckin Nace would place Carson Bell at third, but a double play would halt the chance for them to put themselves on the board.
The Buccaneers would record their last run in the seventh after a passed ball would give them the 6-0 lead. The Highlanders would look to respond in the eighth and ninth innings but were unable to come up with an answer and see Charleston Southern take game one at 6-0.
